DIY multiformat SIM: Standard and microsim at the same time
Lately, Apple has decided to only support so called “Microsims” in their devices.
Unfortunately, I, as an user of the iPhone 3GS, am not able anymore to use my “normal” simcard in both, my iPhone and, say, an iPad. On the internet there are hundreds of tutorials on how to cut your sim to make it fit the microsim-standard. Well, they work, as I tested one of these myself, but that’s not what I wanted to do right now.
I wanted to be able to use my sim in my iPhone AND in an iPad. If I’d cut it down to microsim-size, it won’t fit my 3GS’ simslot.
So, here is my solution: the multiformat SIM.
- May be easily used in iPhone before 4 and 4 itself, as well as iPad 3G + Wifi
- You don’t need any additionally contract or option in your contract
- Producing it is free, as it only requires you one cut
- It’s done pretty fast and if you’re sensitive, you won’t break anything, promised!
Well, but here’s the downside:
- If you cut wrong, your sim may get damaged
- You cannot use 2 devices at the very same time
- The microsim-slider, of course, does not fit anymore so it might get lost
- The looking-out sim does not make the iPad looking better, either…
Well, if you just need a sim to use in all your high-end gadgets, this might be your solution!

Uh man. No risk, no fun!
